Oral Examinations
By attending routine oral exams twice a year, you give your dentist an opportunity to identify any developing oral health concerns and create a treatment plan to resolve issues and get your oral health back on track.
Your dentist will closely examine the health of your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite. In some cases, dental X-rays, oral cancer screening, and other diagnostic procedures will also be performed to provide your dentist with a detailed picture of your overall oral health.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will check your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer. VELscope® oral cancer screening may be performed to help detect issues not clearly visible to the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Maintaining a thorough at-home oral hygiene routine is essential for the long-term health of your smile. Keep your teeth and gums looking and feeling their very best by brushing twice daily for two minutes each time and flossing at least once a day.
Dental Hygiene Cleaning
When you visit Big Bay Point Dentistry for your routine exam, one of our dental hygienists will do a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to help your smile look its very best and prevent disease.
Your hygienist will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque buildup. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If you or your child have a high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
